I miss the days when we could sit down to a good offline “couch” co-op game. I’m not too familiar with that term, but it seems to be used with describing console co-op games such as Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance. It seems that the only way to get anything close to playing co-op would be to play another MMO, but after putting up with the toxic communities that plague that genre for over a decade, I can no longer stomach it.
I was perusing sites such as Co-Optimus for game ideas and all I read are similar reactions from other gamers due to the lack of “couch” co-op games. It’s rather disheartening and frustrating because I like playing games together with my husband. There’s always LittleBigPlanet 3, but I guess I was hoping for more of an open-map sort of game where we can explore together. I wish there could be a game with elements from MMOs, but without the other players. I honestly miss seeing my adorable Lalafell from FFXIV running around doing whatever, even just randomly emoting at NPCs or dancing in a town. It’s silly, but true. Exploring a vast world on her cute pink chocobo was so much fun! I loved how I could customize my character to look a certain way. Little nuances that reflect your tastes and a bit of your personality. I’ve always had this fondness towards cute pink-haired anime characters, so this game was perfect! But I digress…
Hopefully someday they’ll release a game that we will be able to explore in such a manner without having to worry about the above.
